composer and artist from Ireland (Mayo). She has a particular interest in experimental music, graphic scoring and text-based composition, the creation of sound spaces, and live improvised electronics. In 2019 she was awarded the Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship to attend Tokyo University of the Arts as a research student, where she studied Noh with Takeda Takashi 2019-2021. Graphic scoring is a core part of Murray’s work, which often involves scores based on ink painting; she also creates miniature artwork-scores in her Postcard Pieces series. Murray is also a regular performer of live improvised electronics, using random processes to build longform sound performances from samples and field recordings under the title Rndr. She has released four albums of electronic music, and an album of field recordings with interventions, City Shadows, on Café OTO’s Takuroku label. She curates and hosts the experimental music concert series, Kontakt. Wexford and plays the Viola, Violin, Viola D'Amore. Beth is one of Ireland’s leading musicians, enjoying a busy and varied freelance career as a violist, educator, artistic director, and producer. She has recently been elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM), awarded in recognition to those who have distinguished themselves in the music profession and made a significant contribution in their particular field. Beth began her freelance career in London after completing her viola studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music, where she performed regularly with the London Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. As a principal violist, Beth has appeared with Irish National Opera, English National Ballet, London Sinfonietta, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Ulster Symphony Orchestra and RTE Concert Orchestra. She has been principal violist of the Wexford Festival Opera Orchestra since 2008. A prolific chamber musician, Beth has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, alongside musicians including Clio Gould and Colin Carr. She founded and is Artistic Director of Internationally acclaimed chamber collective Musici Ireland, known for their socially impactful multidisciplinary works. As a soloist, Beth has performed the Telemann Viola Concerto many times at St Martin in the Fields, London, as part of the 2019 Ardee Baroque Festival and as a live concert broadcast for RTE Lyric FM in 2021, the broadcast subsequently played in 12 Countries worldwide. She works primarily in jazz and in film. Her instruments are piano, saxophone and voice. Carole has spent several decades in music of all kinds, forming her first band of original soul/funk songs in London in 1978. Since then she has written and recorded five albums for the Irish ArtPop group Zrazy, touring North America and Europe. Her choral compositions include Beloved, currently to be included in a publication of women choral composers from the Baroque to the present day. Her most recent projects are the Carole Nelson Trio and her work with the Na Cailleacha art collective. The Carole Nelson Trio formed in 2015 at the Dublin Trio Trio Festival. They then recorded three albums of critically-acclaimed music, One Day in Winter(2017), Arboreal (2020) and Night Vision (2022). Both Arboreal and Night Vision were in the Irish Times Best Albums of the Year and All About Jazz described the trio as ‘one of the most arresting trios in Ireland and the UK’. Carole’s latest composition for the trio, The Last Song, was supported by the 2023 Ban Bam Award for women jazz composers and premiered in January 2024 at Smock Alley Theatre. In 2017 they signed with a label and released the EP Good Times. Unhappy with the label experience, they decided to go unsigned. In 2019 they moved to Ireland where they graduated in Music Production and Audio Engineering at BIMM Dublin. In November 2021 they released their first self-produced album Tinned Tomatoes. Kildare. She is regularly seen performing on Ireland’s jazz scene and is the founder and manager of The Kind of New Series. Emily is also a part of The Dublin Jazz Co-Op’s administrative team and a passionate guitar and music theory teacher. Emily graduated with honours from DCU's BA Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance in 2022. During this time she developed a deep love of composition and improvisation. Emily was one of the founding members of DCU’s Jazz Society and was the inaugural chairperson. She was particularly dedicated to creating a safe space for newly emerging jazz artists and students to come together for jam sessions. This dedication led to the birth of The Kind of New Series. Emily began a trial run of The Kind of New Series as a two month curation with The Dublin Jazz Co-Op in 2022. It now runs as its own independent organisation managed by Emily and is funded by The Arts Council of Ireland since 2023. It provides monthly performances where bands are specially curated to have one professional jazz musician and three newly emerging jazz artists. It is a crucial stepping stone for many young and new jazz musicians as they start their performing career. In 2018 Emily formed the duo ReRoute with vocalist Rufina Tishina. ReRoute are best known for their intimate show of lyrical, sincere music. Their music draws on their combined influences from jazz and improvised styles of music, as well as Russian and Tatar culture. ReRoute released their first single ‘Temnota’ in March of 2023. Karen Power is an Irish composer/sound artist/improviser, based in Cork, Ireland. Her compositions utilise two primary sources; acoustic instruments and everyday sounds. Karen’s creative output is diverse, both in its approach and delivery, seeking to capture and translate the essence of an idea through a variety of forms, media and methods of dissemination. For example, recent musical works have been presented as sound installations + multi-sensory walk-through experiences, staged orchestral + ensemble pieces, wordless opera, collaborations between sound and dance, sound and image, free + guided improvisations, solo instrumental works, duets, musical happenings + most recently Augmented/Virtual and Expanded Realities. Every day environments and how we hear every day sounds lies at the core of Karen's practice, with a continued interest in blurring the distinction between what we consider ‘music’ and all other sound. She has listened and recorded in some of the worlds most isolated and challenging locations: The Arctic, Amazon, Namib Desert, Outback Australia and most recently Antartica. Karen’s art utilises our inherent familiarity with such sounds, as a means of engaging with performers and audiences with ambitions of altering our relationship with our world and how are behave and effect change in our living environments. Many of my works are devised to ensure that an active listening environment is created, maintained and shared by all involved. O’Neill’s work often embraces the marriage of analogue and niche mediums such as cassette tape, reel to reel, and vinyl players, and emerging technologies such as AI, robotics, and apps. O’Neill has a keen interest in performance art, theatre, literature, and activism, all which form aspects of her immersive live performances. She has recently been commissioned by New Music Dublin, EVA International, and Open Ear. O’Neill curated a night of underground art of music and performance in Anseo and also regularly collaborated with Little Gem. She is deeply engaged with the Dublin underground music and art scene. and is an active contributor to its emerging community of cultural activism and expression. She has performed and shared her work in various venues and locations across Ireland, the UK, France, Germany and China. Having graduated from Music and Drama Studies at Trinity College Dublin in April 2019, she undertook a masters in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts at the Universität der Künste in Berlin where she received first class honours. She has been commissioned amongst others by Crash Ensemble, Kirkos Ensemble, lovemusic collective, Glasshouse, Chatham Quartet, Offspring Ensemble and has presented work at New Music Dublin, Lightmoves Festival and Music Current Festival. She lives on the south coast of Wexford with her daughter. She began her musical life as a singer-songwriter with a zeal for experimentation, and gradually expanded her horizons over the years to embrace the more abstract areas of contemporary music & sound art. Her music has been described as “exhilarating in its refusal to conform” (Clive Bell, Wire Magazine), and “A singular, defiantly independent voice.” (Cormac Larkin, Irish Times). Current work includes a metal sound sculpture project, Sounding Seams, an experimental folk band, Clang Sayne, an improvising choir, Wildsong Ensemble, and a contemporary classical composition, Sleep Piece for Julia. Sounding Seams is a playful exploration of Pythagoras' 'music of the spheres' hypothesis, and its ensuing themes of order, chaos, wonder, and our place in the cosmos, viewed through the prism of metal forgery, heritage and sound. It began when the Irish National Heritage Park in Laura's home town of Wexford invited her to make work in response to the archetype of the blacksmith. Taking inspiration from Pythagoras' alleged encounter with a blacksmith circa 600bce, she disappeared down a rabbit hole of cosmic esoterica and the harmonic series, resurfacing periodically over the following years with 3 live performances, a battery of 40-odd DIY chimes, an EP of songs composed & recorded with these chimes, and a giant permanent chime sculpture at the park. Grimes has played at festivals and venues across Ireland, Europe, India, the UK and US and has released several records throughout her career with her current and former bands including September Girls, Cruising, Bl_ck R_b_ts and The Debutantes. Additionally, she has played on various records with other artists, most recently, Katie Kim. In addition to creating work in bands, Sarah is interested in exploring ways that drums can be used across interdisciplinary mediums. In recent years she has collaborated with several visual artists. These works have been shown and performed in the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Project Arts Centre, Hugh Lane Gallery, Temple Bar Gallery and Studios. She acquired her B.Mus Jazz Performance from Newpark Music Centre in 2008 and M.Phil Music Composition from Trinity College Dublin in 2017. She also obtained a Licentiate Teaching Diploma from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2019, with distinction in performance. She has been actively participating in the Dublin jazz scene since 2008. Frequently performing at jazz club JJ’s Smyth’s as a band leader as well as a guest musician, collaborating with most of the leading jazz musicians in Dublin. In 2011, So-Young led a six-piece ensemble at the National Concert Hall's John Field Room, presenting creative arrangements of Thelonious Monk's music that incorporated classical influences and various rhythmical technique. This sold-out performance garnered positive recognition, including a review headlined “Satisfying Concert" in the Irish Independent newspaper. In 2012, she returned to the John Field Room with my piano trio to perform the music of Wayne Shorter. So-Young took an extended break from public performance in 2013 when she became a mother and focused on developing her compositional skills and piano technique as well as teaching method, acquiring M.Phil Music Composition in Trinity College Dublin and a Licentiate Teaching Diploma from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2019. As an educator, she has been teaching in Walton’s School of Music as a jazz piano teacher since 2008 to date running both group/individual classes teaching. Having trained on the Rough Magic Theatre’s SEEDS Programme in Sound Design, they have gone on to score and design work for platforms such as RTÉ, Virgin Media, Dublin International Film Festival, Galway International Arts Festival, Cork Midsummer Festival, and more, at home and abroad. Recently, they were awarded the ADI New Work Award to produce their operetta, Beards, a farce about a queer immaculate conception in medieval times, which will premier later in the year. In 2023, they received an Arts Council Project Award to develop their musical, The Faggot Manifesto, with collaborator Ultan Pringle, which is heading for production next year. A violinist since early childhood, who performed around the world as a soloist and chamber musician before specialising in contemporary music, they have been exploring improvisation and composition for many years. After releasing 1943, a self-produced EP of covers and originals, Cora’s 2nd album, Terminus Conscientiae, part of Diatribe’s Solo Series, was a spontaneously composed response to Bartok’s sonata for solo violin, “as much an exercise in textures and transposition as it is a display of safety net-free high-wire virtuosity“ (JMI) “ Fans of Bartók, contemporary string adventures and improvised music will find much to appreciate in Lunny's highly personal, soul-searching endeavor” (allaboutjazz.com) Since this time, free improvisation has become a very strong focus for Cora, and their duo with Izumi Kimura is one of their favourite projects of all time. In 2021, Folding was released on Farpoint Recordings, an album which Izumi Kimura and Cora collectively composed in response to Anthony Kelly’s recordings of Dun Laoghaire. This album has been warmly received by critics and musicians and was chosen as one of the favourite 5 Jazz Albums of 2021 by The Ticket. As a member of Yurodny, Cora has also written for them, and with Kate Ellis, was commissioned in 2016 to write a piece for Common Ground, relating to the 1916 commemorations.
